List Summary
Another excellent list from Pierre Legrandois of Pierre restaurant (upstairs) – with a greater selection of better value wines and plenty of choice below $800. Not an everyday canteen sort of a joint, but the easy opulence and laidback ambience makes it a Winechap favorite for l.l.l.l. (long lazy louche lunching). You can check out our recommendations from Pierre upstairs, as excepting the glass list, you are likely to find the wine listed here too but with some less expensive selections and a more visible range of halves. Despite having plenty of affordable wines you will probably pay top dollar here, But as in the Pierre review, its far more than what’s on the label. Care and attention to detail with rarities on offer as well as the impeccable presentation make this list one of Hong Kong’s finest.

| By The Glass { Most interesting available by the glass } |
|---|
2007 Santorini – Asyrtiko – Sigalas – Greece | 158 |
2005 Ribera del Duero – Emilio Moro – Spain | 158 |
| By The Half { Most interesting available by the half bottle } |
|---|
2002 Puligny Montrachet – Jean Marc Boillot | 950 |
| Drinking beautifully - can't get enough of the wines from J-M B - Typically over expressed wines but show true finesse when mature - particularly in the cooler years like 2002 |
| Value Option { Best under £35/$50/bottom 20% of list PLUS any particularly rare bargains at ANY price point } |
|---|
2006 Chardonnay – Adams Road – Vasse Felix, Margaret River, Australia | 500 |
| Reliable wine - Showing the more elegant style of Aussie Chardonnay - Good citrus notes and freshness with the ripe fruit but not too tropical. |
2004 Chardonnay – Hamilton Russell, Walker Bay, South Africa | 495 |
2004 Chianti Classico – Castello di Ama | 600 |
| 1st Date { Impressive but not too showy: circa £50 – but a wine that shows one’s connoisseurship rather than just size of wallet/expense account } |
|---|
2004 Rully – Château de Rully | 700 |
2002 Gevrey Chambertin – Rossignol Trapet | 1,050 |
2000 Rioja Reserva – Miguel Merino | 700 |
| Off the Beaten Track |
|---|
2005 Chateauneuf du Pape – Cuvee Reservee – Domaine du Pegau | 820 |
2003 Soave - La Rocca – Pieropan | 800 |
2003 Barbera d’Asti – Ca di Pian – La Spinetta | 750 |
2003 Cahors – Château Lagrezette | 580 |
| Old School Classic { Classic (usually French or Italian – depending on dominant cuisine), from the middle of the list – a good wine, with age to stick on expenses and impress crusty wine bores/board members } |
|---|
2002 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru – Clos Saint Jean – Michel Niellon | 1,980 |
| Delicious wine, great time to be drinking top whites 1er Crus from 2002 - Retaining citrus notes but with one foot following the rich honeyed character combined with a mineral character and great length. These big whites can seem clumsy in youth but unbelievable when mature. |
1997 Château Gazin, Pomerol | 1,500 |
| Treat Yourself { Remember when you used to get a bonus? not necessarily most expensive – but a real treat, rare, particularly good vintage etc } |
|---|
2002 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru – les Baudes – Serafin | 2,990 |
| Classic nervy style of Chambolle Musigny with black cherry fruit amongst an elegant perfume. 2002's are in a great state at the moment bridging that gap between youthfulness and evolution - this one should be memorable. |
| Crowd pleaser { Well known, trusted producer, region or varietal. No surprises, no disappointments } |
|---|
2001 Marsannay – Joseph Roty | 900 |
2003 Cotes du Rhone - Coudoulet de Beaucastel – Château de Beaucastel | 600 |
2004 Cabernet Sauvignon - Ridge | 990 |
