List Summary

Anticipation... Intimidation... Ennui? Like the Gobi or Arctic tundra a truly vast, slightly discomforting landscape. Unquestionably including some of the best value wines available in the city's restaurants, and refreshingly exciting beyond Bordeaux and Burgundy:

Stunning selections between $900 and $1500, in particular from the Southern Rhone, Piedmont, Tuscany and Spain; a vast half bottle selection as well as depth in dessert wines; and even Madeira dating back to 1808, all provide opportunities for drinking beyond Hong Kong's usual scope.

Not all regions are represented equally but all the boxes are ticked. You could make a dozen visits or more and still only have scratched the surface of the 3500 labels on offer and its here WineChap functions at its’ peak, mapping this vast territory with the patience and dedication of a Norwegian explorer. Check out our recommendations as we will review these often given the breadth to choose from.

However despite listing nearly everything, despite offering exceptional value in many instances, despite having an excellent Sommelier with phenomenal knowledge, this list is almost too blemishless to ascertain a personality. Like a wart on a super-model, or a politician's philandering made public, a discernable fault would make it more approachable.

Consistent with some of the hotel lists there is little or no choice under $500 but you get a lot more for your money here than nearly everywhere in the Hong Kong. Undeniably a 5 star list, your imagination is the sole limitation to choice: So leave restraint at home, embrace the Bacchanalian ostentation of the Robuchon experience and run naked across the sand or snow, double magnums in either hand.

Old School Classic
Classic (usually French or Italian – depending on dominant cuisine), from the middle of the list – a good wine, with age to stick on expenses and impress crusty wine bores/board members }
Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2001 | $2,200
Barolo ‘Carobric’ 1998 Paolo Scavino | $1200
This producer is a legend. Coming from 3 famous crus it has all the hall marks of classic Barolo with a little extra concentration. Tar and rose, power and elegance is the message. A fine wine in a fine (and underrated) vintage!
