  • Dinner with Francesco Ripaccioli of Canalicchio di Sopra

Where: NY Vintners, 21 Warren Street

    When: Friday, February 19th, 7:00p.m.
    Price: $125

Please join us at NY Vintners for an evening with Francesco Ripaccioli of Canalicchio di Sopra. He will pour 10 of his Brunelli from 2004 – 1995 including both the ’99 and ’95 riserva bottlings. We aren’t exactly sure how NY Vintners hustled him into such generosity, but us chaps--in true WineChap form--are honored to intercept the bounty and rain it on our chums.

The evening will kick off with a tasting of Canalicchio’s 2007 rosso, followed by 5 courses, 2 wines paired with each. Following dinner, all wines in the store will be available to attendees at a 20% discount.

    To R.S.V.P. please contact ron@winechap.com.

    About Canalicchio di Sopra:

Canalicchio di Sopra’s story begins with Primo Pacenti (Francesco's grandfather), born in 1923, who lived and worked on the farms of Tuscany--devoting his life to the land and all it had to offer.

Around 1962 Pacenti began focusing on quality grape growing and establishing two vineyards in Montalcino: at Canalicchio di Sopra and Le Gode di Montosoli. In 1967, Pacenti and 11 other families in Montalcino formed the original Consorzio di Brunello.

The first bottles of Canalicchio di Sopra arrived in the US in 1979, putting it in a select group of some of the first quality Brunelli imported outside of the United States. Only 20,000 bottles of Brunello are produced for the world each year from the 15 hectares of the two properties. Their wine making process is steeped in tradition: all grapes are hand selected (no machines), only big barrel aging (no barrique) and pure Sangiovese Grosso grapes; the only varietal grown on both of their properties. Primo Pacenti is still alive and oversees each vintage before it leaves the winery.

  • WineChap's Winter Warmer on the Waterfront benefitting Wellness in the Schools

Where: Pasanella & Son Vintners, 115 South St.
    When: Thursday, February 25th, 6:30 - 8:30p.m.
Price: $40 - half of the proceeds going to Wellness in the Schools

With several more weeks of winter to look forward to (read: sarcasm), we figured we might as well wait it out with a warm (or at least sufficiently alcoholic) drink in hand. However, it isn’t all about the booze this time; half of ticket sales will go to benefit Wellness in the Schools, a grassroots organization dedicated to children’s health. So, come join us at Pasanella & Son for an evening fit to warm both your heart and belly.

We will be pouring a variety of brandies and mulled wines, courtesy of the Rare Wine Company, while Wellness in the Schools' board member and
award-winning chef, Bill Telepan, will be cooking up a selection of proprietary pupus to match.

    Please R.S.V.P. to ron@winechap.com.

More about Wellness in the Schools:
Wellness in the Schools (WITS) is a 501(c)(3) grassroots organization dedicated to children's environmental health, nutrition and fitness in the NYC public schools. Among many other things, the WITS volunteers teach students and parents nutritious cooking, take them out to farmers markets, organize sports during recess hours, and ensure that bio-cleaning products are used in all NYC public schools.

The WITS goal is simple, and the impact of their work is considerable:providing NYC public school children with the best possible environment in which to learn.
